Selling at Centurion

Centurion, as a new firm of auctioneering, will work very hard to please and serve the seller in every need possible and to ensure that his experience is of a rather positive, pleasant and enjoyable one. We believe that marketing plays a very important role in this business, and to that extent, we will invest heavily in social media to market our firm's capabilities in the best possible way.  Social media which includes this well maintained website, public adverts on magazines/newspapers and internet media such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, emails etc.

Before the viewing

After the 'Invitation to Consign' advert is posted on the media, which will be posted two months prior to the auction date, you will have a one month frame to consign your property. Entries which fail to be delivered before one month to the auction's date, will be regretfully rejected with the option to store and include in the forthcoming sale. Please understand that to produce, edit, publish and print a fully illustrated catalogue takes quite a considerable amount of time, hence extensive research and photography/video capturing, and cannot afford to miss and stay behind the deadline.

Before consigning your property for sale, we strongly advice that you send some information in regards to the items that you are interested in selling together, as it is as important, with some photos/images. While everything tends to sell at the right market price, some articles that you might wish to sell might not be suitable or to the level and importance of the articles included in the auction in question. Disappointment is not included in our agenda! If you wish to forward any information/photos in regards to your property, please forward them to info@centurion-auctions.com.

Upon confirmation of the articles, we will take your property into our custody and provide a rubber stamped and signed receipt which includes a rough description of all items consigned together with their reserved prices (if any). Please make sure to check whether all the information as to the number of articles, descriptions and reserved prices are correct on the provided receipt before exiting our offices.

After parting your custody, your property will be researched, databased, photographed, videoed, catalogued and made ready for viewing.

At the Viewing

During the 3/5 day open house viewing to the general public, your property will be labelled and cleanly, clearly and professionally displayed in LED laminated glass display showcases, tops and shelving. They will be also illustrated, numbered and referred to in the published catalogue, which numbers correspond to the labels on the articles. They will be also displayed on a 70″ monitor throughout the viewing days, lot after lot in a video presentation.

It is important to mention that viewers may ask to personally handle and inspect your property within these viewing days.

After the end of each viewing, apart from having an alarm system and a high definition 24 hour infra-red camera system, a security personnel with stay overnight guarding the premisses. This will put the consignors minds at ease and, of course, ours too.

During the Auction

As the viewing ends and the auction starts, your articles will be then removed from the viewing room and stored in a separate room away from the main sales room. They will be, however, displayed one after the other in sequence beside the auctioneer so everyone, apart from seeing the article on a large 70″ monitor in a 360° rotation, see the actual item. This will give buyers as much information and visibility on the article as possible to assess and further evaluate its condition and value.

The auctioneer may open the bidding on any of your lots below the reserved price by placing a bid on your behalf. The auctioneer may continue to bid on your behalf up to the amount of the agreed reserved price, either by placing consecutive bids or by placing bids in response to other bidders.

If an argument is raised between two or more bidders on any particular lot, the auctioneer, at his sole discretion and in no favour or any preference to, can or may close the bidding on the said lot and re-start the bidding process.

After the Auction

When all the lots successfully go under the hammer and the auction concludes, we start working immediately on producing the invoices and handing over the risk of your articles sold to successful buyers upon payment confirmation.

Since we allow a time window of 7 working days to successful bidders to settle their due balance and collect their purchase, we will issue payments to our successful sellers within 15 working days from the end of the auction. This will ensure that all articles bought are paid for and that their would be enough time to produce 'sold lists' together with payment.

Payment to local clients are normally settled by local cheque and sent via registered mail (unless agreed otherwise) while payment to overseas clients are always settled by wire transfer from our bank. Local clients, if it might be more to their comfort, can advise us within the first 10 days after the end of the sale if they wish to be paid directly by wire transfer in their bank of choice.

Successful sellers are obliged to pay a 10% auctioneers commission on the hammer price together with an 18% VAT on the said commission and a further 2% marketing fee in respect to handling charges; Web editing, hosting and entries; photo and video capturing and editing; catalogue editing, publishing and printing; magazines/newspaper adverts, together with an 18% VAT on the said marketing fee. Therefore,  if you successfully sell something at €1000, you will get a net pay of €858.40, deducting €100 as auctioneers commission, €18 to cover the VAT on the auctioneers commission, €20 marketing fees and €3.60 to cover the VAT on marketing fees.

Collection of Unsold Lots

Unsold lots, if any, will have to be collected 7 days [1week] after the last day of the auction, unless agreed otherwise with Centurion to retry the lots for a second attempt. Centurion staff will call or send the client a reminder to collect his|her unsold lots within 7 days [1 week]. Failing to collect within a 7 day [1 week] window, Centurion is obliged to a handling and storage fee of €2 per lot per day starting after the weeks end. No articles will be released to the owner if fee in not fully settled. If the owner refuse to collect after 60 days from notice, articles will become the property of Centurion Auctioneers.
